I am searching for my ggggrandfather . John Wallace ENGLISH born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on January 7, 1824. From the book: "History of Carroll CO.", Iowa: He was left an orphan at the age of five years, and was obliged to depend upon himself. When but ten years old he went to Palmyra, New York, and learned the trade of saddler, which he worked until he came to Carroll, CO., Iowa. In 1848 he came West and located at Racine, Wisconsin, and while living there he started what is now Secor Trunk Factory. When the Civil War broke out he took the contract of manufacturing knapsacks, haversacks and cavalry saddles for the Government. In the year 1862 he removed his factory to Randolph Street in Chicago. At the close of the war he moved to a farm in the vicinity of Ripon, Wisconsin, and in the year 1866 he engaged in brick-making in Green bay, Wisconsin, with George Ginty (editor of the Green Bay Gazette), as partner. In 1872 he moved to Carroll, CO., Iowa, for the remainder of his life. Mr. ENGLISH married Miss Jane H. FRY born in England, in Niagara, Canada on June 19, 1845. NEUVILLE, PONTO, SALUN posted by Linda (Neville) Swanson on Wednesday, September 17, 1997

Branch of family originated in Door County, though not sure if that's the only county to be presumed. Need data re: a John PONTO who married Eliza NEUVILLE who may have been born appx 1870ish. Family papers show their children's names to be Harold, Raymond, Blanch & Ethel who may have been born in late 1800's-1900, then their children may have been born early 1900's and so forth. Would like more info for names mentioned, along with grandchildren, great-greats, etc to bring a little more current. The main identifying detail I can mention here, is that Eliza NEUVILLE was daughter of Jacques NEUVILLE (born 1840) & Marie Theresa SALUN (both of Belgium), with siblings: Flora, Isadore, Rose, Mellory, Jospehine, Louie, Mary & Ananias. Altho' this deviates from the NEUVILLE line that I'm focused on, any data would be appreciated, and I can share other data too. Ponto's are questioned because I'd like to give consideration to women of the family too, even when their surnames changed because marriage -taking them off the main tree. Thank you.
