OBNEY posted by Charles Bitterli on Friday, August 23, 1996

I have located my ggrandfather (Alfred/Alfard OBNEY) and my grandfather (Thomas A. OBNEY) in the 1870 and 1880 Ohio census. It indicates that they lived in Wells Township in Jefferson County. My grandfather's age in the 1870 was listed as 38 and in the 1880 census as 49. He was listed as a farmer. I beleive he was born in 1831, but I have not been able to determine where he was born or who his mother and father are. It is possible that they came from Pennsylvania where a number of Obney's lived at that time but I have been unable to connect my branch of the family with them. I would appreciate any help in trying to trace back my branch of the family.

Where were they born? Thanks!

JEFFERS, JEFFERSON, STEWART posted by Scott Stewart on Friday, August 23, 1996

I am searching for information on Jesse and Jane (nee: JEFFERSON) STEWART. I believe he was born in PA, but that is only a guess, prior to 1800. I have found unconfirmed information that Jesse STEWART married Jane JEFFERSON in Belmont Co. OH. Jane, who was born in Ireland, immigrated with her parents when she was 12 years of age, and settled in Belmont Co. OH, where she grew up and was married. They both died in gallia Co., OH, unknown. They had 11 children: Mary STEWART William STEWART Jesse (Jr.?) STEWART Robert STEWART Nancy STEWART Eli STEWART Frank (Francis?)STEWART Mahlon STEWART (my ancestor) Hamilton STEWART David STEWART Jesse followed farming as a vocation, and resided for varying intervals at different places in Ohio and Pennsylvania, both he and his wife being residents of Gallia County, Ohio, at the time of their death. They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and in politics, he was first a Whig, and later a Republican. (Source: "History of richland County, Wisconsin", edited by Judge james H. Miner, Madison Western Historical Association, 1906) [Mahlon was the only child remaining alive in 1906, according to a newspaper account of his wedding anniversary celebration in that year.] Mahlon STEWART was born on either 16 October 1824 or 1827 at Allegheny County PA, or (according to one obituary) in Belmont County, Ohio. He married Ruth CLARK on 19 August 1852 in Gallia County, Ohio. He died on 17 April 1908 in Bloom City, WI the couple had nine children: William Fayette STEWART, b. 06 January 1855 in Jefferson Co., OH Mary Ellen STEWART, b. 11 September 1856, Black River Falls, WI Rachel Jane STEWART, b. 25 October (Sept?) 1858 (?) in Gallia Co. OH(????) James Hamilton STEWART, b. 11 February 1859, in Richland Co., WI Edward H. STEWART, b. 06 September 1860, in the Town of Bloom, WI Rebecca L. Stewart, b. 09 November 1862 Sarah Martha "Mattie" STEWART, b.08 January 1865 in Bloom City,WI John M. STEWART, b. 07 August 1867, in Bloom City, WI Emmett Clark STEWART, b. 30 August 1873, Town of Bloom, WI I have additional information on most of the children of Mahlon STEWART. I am searching for information on Jesse STEWART and Jane JEFFERSON. One source identifies Jesse's wife as "Jean JEFFERS" who married a Jesse STEWART on 22 August 1811, in Jefferson County, Ohio. Given the similarity in names and approximate locations, there is a distinct possibility that this is the correct name of the spouse. I am looking for any information at all on Jesse, his parents, Jane, her background.
