SNEDEKER, STEVENS posted by Richard Stevens on Sunday, February 1, 1998

Amanda SNEDEKER, born about 1786 in Jefferson Co., Ohio (possibly in or near Amsterdam), died between 1809-1818. About 1803 she married a man named STEVENS first name unknown). They had 3 sons: Auguston, b. 5 Feb 1804 in Wheeling, Ohio Co., VA; Chrysteon (Christian) S., b. 1807 in PA; and James H., b. 1809 in VA. Family tradition says Amanda and husband died while their boys were young, and the boys were "bound out" to learn trades. Has anyone found a record of this family? What was Mr. STEVENS' first name? Your help is really appreciated.

ANDREWS, BARNHILL, CARTER, JACKMAN, MCGUIRE, RUSSELL, SCARLOTT posted by Jim Maize on Thursday, February 5, 1998

ANDREWS BARNHILL CARTER JACKMAN MCGUIRE RUSSELL SCARLOTT I am trying to establish that the John BARNHILL(c1750-1805) and wife, Margaret ------(c1750-1815) who lived in Jefferson(and Harrison Co.) are the parents of Robert BARNHILL(1780-1852) who married Elizabeth CARTER(1782-1845) Both Robert BARNHILL and Elizabeth CARTER settled and raised their family in what is now Sec 7 & 8 of Fox TWP, Carroll County, OH. They are buried in the Brush Creek Cemetery in Carroll Co. John and Margaret, above, had four offspring---Robert, Ginny, Mary and Hugh. I do not know from what area John and Margaret BARNHILL exited when entering Ohio, but it is my contention that this John BARNHILL, who died in Jefferson Co. in 1805, is the same John BARNHILL that was located in Franklin and Dunbar TWP'S of Fayette Co., PA in 1798 & 1799. James amd Hugh BARNHILL, George and Charles CARTER and John MCGUIRE were also there paying taxes in this same time frame. William JACKMAN was located in adjacent Redstone TWP of Fayette County. I believe these to be my associated family who together entered Jefferson County about 1800. In John Barnhill's will of 1805, Jefferson Co., he sites land that he was renting from David ANDREWS. His will was witnessed by Robert RUSSEL and James and Hugh BARNHILL. Margaret BARNHILL's will of 1815, Harrison Co., was witnessed by Robert BARNHILL and Robert and Elizabeth RUSSEL. Anyone having family connections to any of these persons or having any information about them, please contact me. Thank you kindly. Jim Maize

MATHERS posted by Marta Hurst on Thursday, February 26, 1998

Looking for information/relatives of the MATHERS line that lived during 1820's-1850's in Belmont County, Ohio, and some of whom later moved to Buchanan County, Missouri about 1840's. During 1830's there were several MATHERS living in Belmont and adjoining counties of Jefferson, Harrison, and Columbiana -- I believe they were all from the same family and arrived in Ohio from Pennsylvania in the early 1800's. Heads of Households listed in the 1830 census for these four counties were ONLY: Charles MATHERS, Rebecca MATHERS, James MATHERS, Robert MATHERS, John MATHERS, and William MATHERS -- William MATHERS and his wife Mary were originally from Pennsylvania and show up first in the 1830 Belmont census. By 1850 they have moved to Buchanan County, Missouri where their daughter, Sarah b. abt 1843 in Ohio, married into one of my family branches. William joinned two other MATHERS families who are listed as moving from Belmont County, Ohio in the 1840's to Buchanan County, Missouri, Joseph MATHERS and James MATHERS b. 1800 (who brought his sister Eliza b. 1820, my great-great-grandmother). I believe the James and his sister Eliza MATHERS that are my line may have been the children of the James MATHERS, b. abt 1760-1770, listed as living in Harrison County, Ohio in the 1830 census, or Charles MATHERS b. abt. 1760-1770 listed as living in Jefferson County in 1830, or John MATHERS b. abt. 1770-1780 living in Columbiana County in 1830 -- all had a son and daughter in the right age range. William's daughter, Sarah, later married a son of Eliza's in Missouri. I believe all these families were all related and moved from State to State together. Any information on these MATHERS families would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
