COPE, SIMERAL posted by Gary Flynn on Sunday, November 19, 2000

I'm trying to find my g-g-grandfather. All I have is Hiram Holmes COPE, and I'm looking for the name of his parents, and any siblings. Hiram was born abt 1837 in OH. He was married there in Jefferson Co. so I'm hoping that he was born there as well. His spouse, Martha M. SIMERAL, was born 1843, in Bloomfield, OH. They were married in Dec 1863, a also in Bloomfield, and had at least two sons: Al; and William Sherman Tecumpseh, b. 27 Aug 1868, in Bloomfield. The 1870 Census for Jefferson Co. has Hiram H. in Wayne Twp. I don't have the particulars, only the index listing, and the page ref. of 1228, 156. Any help finding out about Hiram, his parents or siblings, would be greatly appreciated.

Surnames: MARTIN, HOAGLAND, HARVEY, DUNHAM, HOOEY Seeking information on Scamahorn Cemetery in Jefferson County. Does this cemetery still exist? I have been told that my gr gr gr gr gr grandfather Jacob MARTIN is buried there, and probably his wife Elizabeth DUNHAM MARTIN. According to Revolutionary War Soldiers Buried in Jefferson County on the Jefferson County OGS site, he is buried at Warrenton but no cemetery is given there. His daughter Elizabeth Martin married Aaron HOAGLAND Sr., son of James HOAGLAND and Mary HOOEY Hoagland around 1800. Aaron and Elizabeth's granddaughter married Obadiah Holmes HARVEY in Van Wert County in 1846. Obadiah was born in Jefferson County 11Nov 1820 to William HARVEY and Sarah "Sally" WATSON Harvey. Any information on these families would also be appreciated. Thank you.

MAPLE, RAMSEY posted by Candice Becker on Sunday, November 26, 2000

I am seeking information on William RAMSEY and his wife Jane MAPLE RAMSEY. They are buried (?) in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, near Irondale. Is this cemetery still in existence? I don't know where William was born or raised but Jane lived her entire life in Jefferson County. William was a potter at one time - I have a bowl he created and fired. Are there any pottery shops in the Jefferson County area now? Thanks for the help and information.

FANKBONER, LISLE posted by bonnie lisle smail on Friday, December 1, 2000

i am looking for information on a james LISLE and his ancestors. i am forwarding you some e-mail information with some names i hope you may recognize. if you have any leads to the names in the estate settlement i mention please let me know. thank you the following is correspondence that explains the connections. My name is Dean LISLE and I am a descendant of John Lisle and Rebecca Fankboner, I am quite sure. My father's great-grandfather was the son of John Lisle and Rebecca FANKBONER. His name was James Lisle. The information you have on your query connects John Lisle to your relatives. I need confirmation of the parents and grandparents of John Lisle who married Rebecca FANKBONER. I have conjectured that he is the son of James LISLE of PA who married Elizabeth ? I think he may have been the son of Robert Lisle. According to my information, John Lisle was born 7 Jun 1799 and died 15 Apr 1840.. He married Rebecca on 26 Mar 1826. His son James was born 4 Jul 1832. There were 4 other sisters and one brother to James named Margaret 10 feb 1827, Elizabeth 20 Jul 1828, Sarah Ann 13 Jun 1830, Rebecca Ann 7 Mar 1834 and John 5 Jan 1836. Please send any information you have about the parents and siblings of John Lisle who married Rebecca Fankboner. Thank you much. Dean Lisle Home: Surnames: Lisle Family Genealogy Forum Re: james lisle family in Holmes county ohio Posted by: bonnie lisle smail Date: November 15, 2000 at 16:20:11 In Reply to: james lisle family in Holmes county ohio by bonnie lisle smail ron this is the james i need information on; a james lisle died in Jefferson county ohio in and around 1848 - he had two entries in the settling of his estate that may interest you - they read as follows; a George b seeper or leeper was guardian of two minor children of a deceased john lisle of tuscarawas county (brother of my james also deceased by this date) james lisle and Rebecca Anne lisle. john had another daughter married to an Isaac Norris named Elizabeth. i believe the john you seek is the deceased john above. i am in the process of examining the copy of this settlement and have other names, i believe john and james had brothers Robert, William, Isaac, Ishmael and a sister possibly that was married to Nathaniel Mcclelland. this james(whom the settlement concerned) i believe was the father of my grtgrtgrtgrandfather james lisle who married Sarah shrimplin in 1832 in Holmes county. i am certain we are related. my grtgrtaunt Elizabeth Barkley signed a receipt for her share as a granddaughter of the deceased which was $65 dollars. have you any information the name karr or kerr he was administrator of the estate? Nathaniel McClelland signed for a full share either he was an adopted child or signed for a daughters share.? i live just out side killbuck, in Holmes county, ohio, across the field from the shrimplin cemetery where Abraham shrimplin, Elizabeth butler shrimplin, Sarah shrimplin lisle, james lisle 1800-1842, etc are buried. my maiden name is lisle. i live on the land that Abraham shrimplin claimed in 1807-1810. this is my line; Holmes county ohio lisles i grew up in the house that james/Sarah lisle, marimon/Margaret lisle, john clement/Ella lisle, glen/Ruth lisle, Otto/Dorothy lisle (my parents) lived in over the generations built by the spring that Abraham built his cabin by. i heard the stories of these early lisle from my grandmother Ruth who had them from Margaret / marimon's widow lisle. tuscarawas county is 45 minutes from here so after i have compiled everything the family has i will go to the records there. from this settlement report we should be able the find land transfer to settle his estate they sold 125 acres at 28 dollars per acre. can you imagine what it would be worth now? if we can place this james in the genealogies of the county there we will be able to trace his line to Scotland i assume. thank you bonnie
